THE LAY APOSTOLATE

Redemptorists, since coming to Nigeria, have made tremendous efforts to beef up lay support, to their apostolates. Two associations were formed, namely the Redemptorist Youths Vocation Ministry (RYVM) and the Co-Redemptorists Association of Nigeria (CRAN) who are now called the Friends of the Redemptorists (FOREDS).

Friends of the Redemptorists (FOREDS)
As far back as 1995, a lay group of men and women from the parish of Ss Michael, Raphael and Gabriel Catholic Church, Satellite Town and from St Patrick’s Alaba which was then an outstation of the Archangels’ parish were formed into the Co-Redemptorists Association of Nigeria. CRAN was later introduced to Ibadan around 1996. In 2008, the new Vice Provincial Government renamed CRAN. The new name given is Friends of the Redemptorists (FOREDS)

Activities
FOREDS is a Redemptorist Lay Apostolate Group. Members of FOREDS can work in our parishes in personal ways as Catechism teachers and Marriage instructors. FOREDS members can work with the Redemptorists in various capacities:

- As Coordinators of the Redemptorist Support Group (RSG)

- As Partners in Fund-Raising Committee.

- FOREDS members can work with the students in their various apostolates, such as the prison ministry, Remand Home visitation, Hospital visitation, and other pastoral works.

- FOREDS members are called in a special way to pray for th
e success of the mission and ministry of the Redemptorists, as well as that of the Association

The idea is to encourage members to help in the ministry and mission of the Redemptorists because there are numerous areas where a lay person does better than a religious or cleric. In such cases, the Friends of the Redemptorists are expected to be the leaders.
